The Problem

The lack of adequate medical transportation in the rural communities of Uganda and Africa is a significant problem. Vehicles are rarely accessible in the rural communities due to poor economic conditions.

The Problem

Everyday approximately 800 women die due to preventable complications during pregnancy and child birth – that’s one death every two seconds. Nearly every one of these deaths is entirely preventable and the mothers could have been saved with access to proper medical care. No woman should die while giving life!

The lack of adequate medical transportation in the rural communities of Uganda and Africa is a significant problem. Vehicles are rarely accessible in the rural communities due to poor economic conditions. Since rural areas are located far from the nearest health facilities people resort to unsafe transport means like riding at the back of the bicycles or motorcycles for many kilometers, being carried by neighbors or family members and as a result many expectant mothers have no option but to give birth from home with the help of traditional birth attendants, and as a result 90% of all births happen without trained assistants. These Challenges among others cause poor maternal health and high child mortality rates and other outcomes from inadequate affordable medical transportation in the rural communities.

In Uganda, 16 women and perhaps their babies die every day due to pregnancy related conditions while those who survive have to live with painful and debilitating complications such as the Fistula. Fortunately, most of these deaths are preventable if care can be obtained in good time.

The underlying causes of these deaths are the three delays; the delay in deciding to decide seek care (financial), the delay in reaching care (transport), and the delay to access quality health care at the facility (health workers working conditions).

The missing link is strengthening referral linkages between communities and the health facilities and that’s where Pulse Fabrications Limited and Pulse Impact comes in as a reliable partner in bridging this gap.
